IT Services for Dental & Orthodontic Practices

Dentrix, Open Dental, and Eaglesoft support — plus imaging, HIPAA, and chair-side reliability.

Dental practices run on chair-side software and digital imaging that must respond instantly. We support Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, digital sensors, and cone-beam CT for general, cosmetic, pediatric, and orthodontic practices across Las Vegas.

Dental IT is different from general medical IT in ways that matter operationally. Chair-side software must be instant — a two-second delay while a hygienist waits on Dentrix is unacceptable. Digital sensors and intraoral cameras must capture without dropped frames. Cone-beam CT files are large and clinicians need them open immediately, not spinning.

We support general dentistry, cosmetic and restorative practices, pediatric dentistry, endodontists, oral surgeons, and orthodontic offices across the Las Vegas valley — from single-doctor storefronts in Summerlin to multi-office DSOs with locations in Henderson and North Las Vegas.

Our approach centers on three outcomes: instant chair-side performance, defensible HIPAA posture, and imaging that never gets lost. Everything else — patching, email, VoIP, backups — supports those three.

How the practice runs

Chairside and front desk in sync

Scheduling, practice management, imaging, and billing depend on the same underlying IT — kept steady so clinicians can focus on patients.

How the day runs

Daily operational workflows

  1. 1Morning huddle: front desk pulls the day's schedule from Dentrix / Open Dental / Eaglesoft, treatment plans and X-rays are pre-loaded, insurance eligibility is verified.
  2. 2Chair-side operatory: hygienist takes bitewings on a DEXIS / Schick / Carestream sensor, images route to the operatory PC and land in the patient chart in seconds.
  3. 3Doctor exam: imaging is presented on operatory monitors, treatment is proposed in the software, printouts and estimates go to the front desk.
  4. 4End-of-day: encounters closed, claims submitted, encrypted off-site backups verified, and workstations rebooted for the next morning.
What we hear

Business & technology challenges

Sensor and imaging driver conflicts

Windows updates routinely break sensor drivers or TWAIN chains. We stage updates in test environments before they roll to operatories.

Legacy Server 2012 / 2016

Many practices are still on out-of-support Windows Server hosting the Dentrix database. We migrate to modern Server, hyperconverged, or hosted models.

Slow cone-beam viewing

Cone-beam CT files are hundreds of MB. We size storage, network, and workstation GPUs to render instantly, not painfully.

Multi-location data sharing

Growing groups need shared schedules, shared imaging, and consolidated reporting across sites. We architect the WAN, replication, and identity for it.

Regulatory

Compliance considerations

HIPAA Security Rule

Encryption at rest and in transit, audit logs on Dentrix / Open Dental / Eaglesoft, unique per-user logins (no shared 'dentist' account).

State dental board records retention

Nevada requires patient records to be retained for a defined period after last visit. We design backup retention to match.

Business Associate Agreements

BAAs with imaging vendors, cloud backup, and any partner that may touch ePHI.

Tooling

Industry software we support

Dentrix / Dentrix Ascend

Server sizing, SQL tuning, and Ascend cloud migration planning.

Open Dental

MySQL tuning, replication, and hardware refresh on the Open Dental server.

Eaglesoft

Patterson vendor liaison plus workstation and imaging bridge support.

DEXIS, Schick, Carestream

Sensor driver management and imaging integration into the practice-management system.

iTero, 3Shape TRIOS, Planmeca

Intraoral scanners and cone-beam CT — sizing storage and network for scan volume.

Threat model

Cybersecurity risks unique to this industry

Ransomware on the Dentrix / Open Dental / Eaglesoft server

The practice-management database is the crown jewel. We isolate it, monitor it with EDR, and back it up immutably off-site.

Phishing to office managers

Fake insurance and supply-vendor emails target front-office staff. We combine advanced mail filtering with role-specific training.

Weak / shared credentials

'Dentist1' logins on operatory PCs are common and audit-hostile. We move practices to per-user SSO with MFA on remote access.

The practice technology ecosystem

Segmentation and HIPAA-aligned identity keep clinical, imaging, and administrative systems working together without cross-exposing ePHI.
Our take

Technology recommendations

Move backup off the file server

A local USB backup dies with the server. Encrypted, immutable cloud copies with quarterly test restores are the standard.

Segment imaging traffic

Cone-beam and intraoral scanner traffic should run on a dedicated VLAN with QoS so it never competes with guest Wi-Fi.

Standardize the operatory PC

One hardware SKU, one image, GPU sized for imaging, monitor sized for chair-side viewing. Fewer models = faster support.

If you're evaluating cloud-hosted practice management, we run the readiness and cutover plan.

Resilience

Business continuity & disaster recovery

Downtime workflow

Printed schedule for the day, offline check-in sheets, and a documented cutover so the practice keeps operating during a systems outage.

Imaging archive protection

Historical X-rays and cone-beams are irreplaceable. We keep at least two off-site copies, one immutable.

Where we're headed

Cloud, remote work & AI opportunities

Cloud-hosted practice management

Dentrix Ascend, Curve Dental, and Open Dental Cloud eliminate the on-prem server. We evaluate cost, connectivity, and readiness.

Microsoft 365 for the office

Encrypted email, shared calendars for providers, Teams for internal messaging, and MFA on every user.

Multi-location expansion

Site-to-site VPN or SD-WAN, unified identity, and consolidated reporting for practices opening a second or third office.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Do you support our specific practice-management software?

Yes — Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Curve, and others. We manage the environment they run in and coordinate with the vendor on application issues.

Can you help us open a second location?

Yes. We plan the network, identity, imaging replication, and shared schedule so both sites feel like one practice.

Our sensors keep breaking after Windows updates. Can you fix that?

Yes. We stage Windows and driver updates in a controlled ring so they're validated against your sensor and imaging stack before hitting operatories.

Chair-side reliability for your dental practice.

Book a dental-focused IT assessment. We'll walk your operatories, review your imaging and backup posture, and hand back a plan.
